Pieropan La Rocca

The Pieropan legacy began in the late 1800s when visionary winemaker Leonildo Pieropan purchased his winery building in the historic town of Soave. Through more than a century, the Pieropan family has revolutionized winemaking in Soave, becoming one of the most highly respected wine families in Italy. Today, this legacy of exceptional Italian winemaking is carried forward in the same historic winery in the heart of Soave village by Leonildo’s grandson, Leonildo “Nino” Pieropan, his wife Teresita, and their sons, Andrea and Dario. Overseeing viticulture and winemaking respectively, Andrea and Dario employ the same meticulous attention to detail as their forebears in bringing these celebrated wines to life.

Description

WINE NOTES: This is the Pieropan family’s celebrated single-vineyard Soave from the La Rocca vineyard in the heart of the Soave Classico zone. It is the richest Soave in the Pieropan portfolio, crafted from 100% Garganega grapes harvested supermatura – a few days later than usual – for more natural ripeness and greater complexity. La Rocca vineyard is on the Monte Rocchetta hill just below the historic medieval castle built by the Scaligeri family in Soave. The vineyard is of oceanic origins with calcareous soils that were also used to build the historic medieval castle. The vineyard produces wines with a unique perfume and distinctive taste. This intense, sunny yellow wine opens with elegant aromas of exotic fruit, white flowers and toasted nuts as well as ripe nectarine, melon and fine honey. Rich and broad in the mouth, with seamlessly integrated oak, La Rocca’s luscious palate pairs flavors of ginger and toast with peach and cashew. A lengthy, persistent finish frames hints of sage and vanilla, and the wine closes on a mineral note characteristic of the vineyard.
